External Examination Results 2024/25

2024-25 was another good year for our Year 11 leavers. This was the first set of formal national examinations they had experienced, as their SATs were cancelled back in 2020 due to the Covid arrangements in place.  This also meant that there were no official benchmarks, or starting points from which to assess progress; staff and students alike were focused on producing the very best possible from each and every individual.  The group was characterised by hard work and dedication, and our powerful partnership between students, staff and parents led to some really pleasing outcomes for our boys. These are provisional results – verified results are due to be published in December

  • 75% of our students achieved at least a grade ‘4’ in both English and Maths (67% nationally).
  • 59% of our students achieved at least a grade ‘5’ in both English and Maths (47% nationally).
  • 13% of our students achieved at least a grade ‘7’ in both English and Maths.
  • 35% of students achieved the English Baccalaureate suite of subjects at 4+ and 32% at 5+. The average attainment 8 score for EBacc was 4.8 (4.6 nationally).
  • Financially under-resourced students performed well, with 59% and 41% achieving 4+ and 5+ in both English and Maths respectively.
  • 44% of students with additional needs achieved English and Maths at 4+, and 32% at 5+.

Progress 8 score

Boys at King’s Norton School for Boys traditionally make positive progress – they achieve better at age 16 than they would be expected to, given their starting points at age 11. Recent P8 values have been between +0.10 and +0.23. The latest figure of +0.23 indicates that our boys made significantly more progress than all students (boys and girls) nationally.

Like all other schools, we will not receive a progress measure this year, as students did not sit SAT tests at age 10/11.

Attainment 8 score

Schools achieve a score based on how well pupils have performed in up to 8 qualifications. The score for KNBS is 4.9 (National figure, 4.7)

Many individual subjects produced excellent results, with students achieving up to the highest grades possible. 19.2% of all grades were (provisionally) at 7+.

There were some particular performances of note. The highest possible grade at GCSE is a grade ‘9’, and students usually study between 8 and 10 qualifications. Given those facts, the following grades for each of these students are really pleasing:

There was a sea of smiles on results day in August, and we are all so proud of the achievements of our boys. They have earned their successes, and we wish them every further success in their chosen paths.
