What is Safeguarding?
What is safeguarding?
Safeguarding is everything we do as a school to make sure our students:
- Get support early – as soon as they need it
If worries, difficulties or needs start to appear, whether at school, at home or in their life online, we don’t wait for things to get worse. We act quickly to help.
- Are protected from harm
This includes protection from all kinds of hurt or mistreatment, whether it’s happening at home, at school, in the community or online.
- Have their health, wellbeing and development looked after
This isn’t just about physical safety – it includes emotional wellbeing, mental health and making sure children have the best chance to grow and thrive.
- Are growing up in safe and supportive circumstances
We work with families and other services to ensure that, whenever possible, children grow up in an environment that feels safe and nurturing, whether that’s at home, in school, with carers or extended family.
- Have every chance of the best possible outcomes
Safeguarding isn’t only about responding to risks, it’s about supporting children so they can do well in school, feel well, make healthy choices and have positive futures.
- What to expect from this safeguarding area
The King Edward VI King’s Norton School for Boys Safeguarding page has been created in order to allow parents and students to have easy, instant access to information and guidance on how to keep their children safe, and who to contact should they have concerns about a child. This online information will enable parents/carers to make referrals and seek support independently at a time that is convenient to them. The information provided has been selected to reflect the broader range of safeguarding concerns which may affect children across the country. Links to websites and contact numbers have been included.
The information will in no way affect the service and support offered by the Pastoral and Safeguarding Team within King Edward VI King’s Norton School for Boys and staff will always be available to discuss matters with you and your child.
This information will be reviewed and updated periodically to reflect any changes to services within the city.
- Meet the team:
At King Edward VI Kings Norton School for Boys, safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. We have a dedicated safeguarding team who work closely together to ensure that all students and families receive the right help and support, at the right time.
The team is led by our Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) and supported by a number of Deputy Designated Safeguarding Leads (DDSLs). Together, they make sure that any concerns are taken seriously, responded to promptly, and handled with care, sensitivity and professionalism.
Our priority is always to keep students safe, support their wellbeing, and work in partnership with families and external agencies to achieve the best possible outcomes for every child.
