School Librarian

We are seeking a school librarian to join our school as soon as possible.  This is a great opportunity for a candidate who is passionate about reading and able to instil a love of reading in our students.

Contract type: Permanent – Full Time Support Staff – 30 hours per week TTO + 5 

Salary: NJC PT20 – PT25 (£30,296 – £33,945) FTE | Pro Rata (£22,415 – £ 25,114)

We are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, highly motivated, organised and confident School Librarian to join our team. We are looking for someone who loves reading and can communicate and share that passion with students, colleagues and the wider community.

The ideal candidate will be an inspiring, self-motivated and passionate Librarian who is able to develop a culture of reading for pleasure and academic success across our school. They will not only manage library resources, but also actively engage with students and staff, enrich learning experiences beyond the library, and make literacy a dynamic and exciting part of school life.

Purpose: – To foster a culture of reading, research and independent learning across the school.
– Manage a develop the school’s library resources to support the curriculum, promote literacy and encourage a lifelong love of reading.
Reporting to:2nd in English
Liaising with: Headteacher / SLT, other Heads of Faculty, Heads of Subject, Heads of House, Student Support Team, relevant staff with cross school responsibilities, relevant non-teaching support staff, and parents. External support staff (e.g. BEP or Local Authority)

Duties
Key Responsibilities – Oversee the daily management, organisation, and promotion of the library.
– Develop initiatives to encourage reading for pleasure and academic success.
– Collaborate with the school literacy lead and subject teachers to integrate literacy into subject curriculums.
– Organise book clubs, reading challenges, author visits, and themed literacy events.
– Maintain and curate a diverse collection of books and digital resources.
– Assist students in developing independent research and information literacy skills.
– Ensure the library is an engaging, inclusive, and welcoming space for all students.
– Work with pastoral teams to support targeted reading interventions.Promote digital literacy and responsible research practices.
General Duties– Monitor and evaluate the impact of literacy initiatives.
– Support the management the library budget, stock, and digital systems effectively.
– Ensure safeguarding policies are upheld within the library environment.Contribute to whole-school literacy and learning strategies.
