Dinghy Sailing

Dear Parent/Carer,

Following your son’s request for Outdoor Education this year, I am pleased to invite him onto a dinghy sailing session, which will take place this academic year.

Please see your son’s allocated date on the text message you received this link on.

Students have the opportunity to go sailing at Bartley reservoir in the fleet of sailing boats owned by the school. They will learn the skill’s to safely manoeuvre and sail in in a double handed sailing boat. In addition to undertaking activities that lead them towards achieving their Bronze award, students undertake a deep-water swim exercise. Using the specialised equipment provided this exercise is designed to increase their understanding of buoyancy aids and help increase their confidence in open water. Once completed, students have the opportunity to explore the reservoir as a group and practice the skills required to achieve their Bronze award with Mr Julian, a qualified sailing coach.

Students should meet by the Outdoor Education Room at 8.50am after form. The Outdoor Education room is D 1.6, by the side of the dining room. We will return to school at 3pm. Students will be transported in the school mini bus.

Please supply a packed lunch and a large drink. Packed lunches are available for free school meal students.

Students will be provided with all safety gear, wetsuits and footwear. Please remember to bring a towel and swim wear to put on underneath their wetsuits.

Students are required to come to school in full uniform and will get change at Bartley reservoir.

In order for your son to take part in this activity, we will need the online medical consent form (link below) submitted before his allocated date.

To maintain this wonderful opportunity for our students, it is essential we have contributions from families. Parental contributions help support the running and upkeep of the outdoor adventure programme as well as providing outdoor learning opportunities across the curriculum for all students.

Contributions are to be made via ParentPay to the ‘Parental Contributions’ payment item.

If your son is unable to take this opportunity, then please let me know so we can reallocate the space.

Thanks for your support.
